Is It Worth Going to Disney World While Pregnant?

For some moms-to-be, pregnancy is absolutely magical. For others, it is anything but. In fact, sometimes one of the last things on your mind during early pregnancy is fulfilling a previously reserved vacation.

Regardless, planning a trip to Disney World is something that is frequently done well in advance. If you have planned a special family vacation before finding out that your family is growing, don’t worry.

Going to Disney World with a bun in the oven can still be a magical time.

And if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, you can always take advantage of this Walt Disney World concierge service where they will help with the little details in planning your trip!

The Atmosphere Rocks

As many already know, the rides at Disney can be fun, but that isn’t exactly where the magic is at. It’s everywhere in the Parks! The ambiance! The lights. The sounds. The sight of others having some of the best moments of their lives.

The aromas (though, if certain scents make your ever-growing tummy churn, consider a bracelet with essential oils, to get a whiff of something tolerable when needed).

The magic is literally prancing around each and every inch of the parks. So, just because you may not be able to ride the wildest rides doesn’t mean that you still won’t have a great time. Your pregnancy glow will certainly be shining for all of those around you.

The Rides are Amazing

As I mentioned, the wild and crazy rides may not be up your alley these days. You know, usually, the ones that have a height restriction, or flat out have a sign stating that it isn’t recommended for women who are pregnant.

However, there are plenty of rides that are suitable for you and that little bean of yours.

When planning your walking route (let’s be honest, pregnancy is tiring in itself, so planning your day around places to rest, snack stations and restrooms probably isn’t a bad idea), be sure to pay close attention to the rides on your map.

The rides that aren’t suitable for pregnant women are cleverly marked with a red triangle, so you don’t waste your time (and precious energy!) heading over to a ride that you will have to sit out.

Eating for Two

Many take advantage of the fact that they are eating for two. Why wouldn’t you? You want to provide that little nugget of yours with all of the nutrients that their tiny little body needs, as well as have enough left over for your own needs.

One thing that you won’t have difficulties with while roaming the parks with a tag-along in your belly, is finding a place to fulfill those demanding cravings!

So, as long as your pocketbook can handle your desire for delicious, Disney-inspired snacks and foods, you are going to enjoy being able to succumb to the mouth-watering aromas and treats.

Tips for Your Disney Travels While Pregnant:

Obviously, your experience at Disney, while pregnant, is going to be a little different than any other time. To make the trip worthwhile, while still maintaining the magic, consider the following tips.

Keep the Map Handy!

All of that extra pressure on your bladder can lead to extra bathroom trips. By keeping the map handy you will be able to find the nearest bathroom at all times.

Because when that little nugget kicks you in just the right spot, you want to be able to dart right to the bathroom.

Bring Snacks

Disney allows you to bring snacks into the park! Help keep the morning (or all day!) sickness at bay, and make sure to bring your own snacks!

Crackers, granola bars, fruits, and veggies, you name it. As long as it doesn’t need to be cooked before you eat it, you are more than welcome to bring it along.

Take Rests

There is no shame in sitting out a ride or two, to rest those feet and back of yours. Even if you haven’t already packed an extra 10-30 pounds on yet, pregnancy can be exhausting. Don’t overdo it, or you’re not going to enjoy our day at the park.

Consider a Massage

Just because you have to sit out the intense rides doesn’t mean that the rest of your party will be sitting them out. In fact, while they are riding the rides you are unable to, there is no better time to sneak in a pregnancy massage.

After all, that body of yours is working hard to create new life. You deserve a little pampering while the rest of the family is off enjoying themselves.

Stick to the First Two Trimesters

Going to Disney while in your third trimester is certainly doable, however, it is very unlikely that it will be enjoyable. After all, the third trimester is often the most uncomfortable as it is!

If you can work it out, make sure to make your trip during either your first or second trimester.

Keep Your Doctor Informed

While monthly doctor visits can get old, it’s different when you are going in to listen to those fast, sweet, tiny thumps of your little love’s heartbeat.

While you are visiting the doc, make sure to mention your upcoming travels, and ask if there any certain precautions that you need to be mindful of. Chances are, you will be good to go, but it never hurts to check with your trusted doctor!

Rides Perfect for Pregnant Ladies at Disney World

If you are hoping to go to Disney World, but are worried about that pregnant belly of yours getting in the way, don’t! You can stop worrying!

Whether you are pregnant now, and want to make a quick trip to Disney before the baby comes, or are planning a future vacation and are hoping to be pregnant by then, it’s totally okay!

Tons of women visit Disney World while they have a bun cooking in the oven! While it’s true that there are a number of rides that aren’t exactly suitable for pregnant women, there are still plenty of other rides and attractions that are completely acceptable for you to ride.

As you are planning your upcoming trip to Disney World, take a look at these rides that are safe for both you and your little bean!

Which Rides to Avoid When Going to Walt Disney World While Pregnant:

Are you ready for some exciting news? There are more rides at Disney that are suitable for pregnant women, than there are rides that should be avoided!

Just because your belly is getting larger by the day, doesn’t mean that you are out of luck when it comes to riding the rides.

During your planning, it’s a good idea to pay attention to your map. The key will show you the symbol for which rides aren’t suitable for folks with certain health issues. Pregnant women will want to avoid all of the rides that are shown to have a red triangle next to them.

This is good to know so that you don’t waste any precious energy walking all the way to a ride, only to find out that it is full of lots of bumps, jostling, and sudden stops that probably aren’t great for baby.

Also, if the ride has “mountain” in it, or height restrictions, you can pretty much assume that it’s off the table this time around. Your best bet is going to be the kiddie rides that are smooth and gentle.

Here’s a list of the Walt Disney World rides to avoid while pregnant:

  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • The Barnstormer
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • DINOSAUR
  • Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

  • Tomorrowland Speedway

If you are going the Disney with the intention to ride the rides, that are certainly some better park options for doing so while pregnant, and some that may not be worth your while.

Before you order your tickets and get to mapping out your day, take a look at this list of safe rides, park by park.

Hollywood Studios While Pregnant:

If rides aren’t your favorite part of going to Disney, then you may not mind visiting Hollywood Studios.

Other Pregnancy-Safe Activities

If your feet can’t quite handle waiting in another line, don’t worry. There are a variety of other fun attractions and activities to check out!

Each park has its own version of shows to watch, encounters to book, and meet and greets for some of your favorite Disney characters. You can even enjoy a relaxing pregnancy massage while the rest of the family is off doing other things.

And with that appetite for two, you are sure to enjoy the vast amount of snacks and foods to munch on throughout the parks.

Extra Tips to Consider When Going to Walt Disney World While Pregnant:

There are tons of tips out there for all Disney Parks goers. However, something you don’t quite come across as often are tips for pregnant women.

Before you embark on your magical journey, take these tips into consideration!

  • Getting in and out of rides may not be as easy with your growing belly. The sooner you go into your pregnancy, the more comfortable you likely will be!
  • Don’t get stuck waiting in line when you are due to eat. Plan your Lightning Lane selections accordingly so that you aren’t starving as you wait for your turn to jump on the rides.
  • Make a quick call to your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to enjoy the rides and the extra walking that you will be doing.

Where to Stay at Walt Disney World While Pregnant?

There are SO many different Walt Disney World hotels that it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. Personally, I’m all about convenience. So, I recommend hotels that are easy to get to/from the Parks.

MONORAIL RESORTS

Since Magic Kingdom has the most pregnancy-friendly rides, I’d highly recommend staying at a Monorail Resort. It’s a quick ride and it’s convenient to head back for an afternoon nap.

Plus, these are just one transfer from Epcot.

SKYLINER RESORTS

Another option is to stay at a Skyliner Resort. It’s an easy ride to Hollywood Studios and Epcot and you can also transfer to Magic Kingdom.

Disney Maternity Clothes

Are you wondering what to wear at Disney World while pregnant? Comfortable footwear is the most important thing.

For me, these FitFlops are my favorite because they kept my feet cool. I also recently discovered Fit My Foot custom sandals and insoles and they would have been really helpful with pregnant at Disneyland.

However, if you are nervous about open-toed shoes at Disney World, wear your most comfortable athletic shoes. You can always add inserts to make them even more comfy.

But, I’m sure you also want to look cute while pregnant at Disney, right?

    DISNEY PREGNANCY CLOTHING

I liked to wear loose graphic t-shirts over a tank top at Disney World. They usually have good deals at Kohl’s and Target in the junior department.

And, there are some awesome deals on Disney shirts on Amazon. Just be sure to size up to fit your belly at the time of your trip.

There are also hilarious Disney maternity shirts like this one and this one! Etsy is also a great place to customize your own Disney shirts.

Plus, you can add Minnie ears to any outfit to make it cute for Disney!

    DISNEYBOUNDING WHILE PREGNANT

Wondering what Disneybounding is? Basically, you dress up as contemporary versions of Disney characters. That’s why it’s ideal for maternity clothes!

First, you go through your closet and see what color maternity shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, etc you have. Then, pick a Disney character to inspire your outfit.

If you really want to go down this rabbit hole, check out the official Disneybound blog for outfit inspiration.

    Disney Pregnancy Announcement

I’m all about maximizing every trip we take, especially Disney vacations. So, take advantage of all the amazing photo ops for announcing a pregnancy at Disney World.

I mean, how often can you have a Disney character help you tell the world you are pregnant?

    MICKEY MOUSE

My favorite way to announce a pregnancy at Walt Disney World is with Mickey Mouse himself. Disney is very strict about taking character photos with signs, so I’ve come up with the best plan of action

    1. Choose a Mickey location that is indoors and offers air conditioning (the one at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is nice because you can also see Minnie!)
    2. Once you get into the holding area, let everyone else go in front of you.
    3. Tell the cast member assisting Mickey Mouse that you are pregnant and would love Mickey to be part of the announcement.
    4. Bring an ultrasound photo, little baby shoes, a little Mickey Mouse, baby Mickey ears or any other prop you think would be cute.
    5. Hand your phone over to the cast member to take a video of you telling Mickey you are pregnant. Even though he can’t talk, you’ll be amazed at just how excited and animated he will be for you!
    6. Then, smile for the Disney PhotoPass photographer!

    Disney World Maternity Photo Shoot

Take advantage of all the Disney PhotoPass spots! They are set up in iconic spots all over the park and they will take your photo using their camera or your own camera.

It’s an easy and cost-effective way to do maternity photos at Disney World.

If you really want to splurge, hire a professional photographer to meet you at Disney World to do a professional Disney maternity photo shoot.

We love using Sees The Day Photography for family photos at Disney World. It’s a husband and wife team and they are amazing!

Here are my favorite maternity photo spots at Disney World:

    CINDERELLA’S CASTLE

The trick to getting the best photo at Cinderella’s Castle is to take advantage of Magic Mornings or Magic Hours.

Or, get there before rope drop. That’s the best time to get a photo in front of the castle with the least amount of people in the background. Just make sure to head straight there.

    STORYBOOK CIRCUS

Easily overlooked, Storybook Circus is a lovely backdrop for maternity photos at Disney. It’s tucked away in Fantasyland and features lots of colorful circus-themed props and sets.

Photo credit: Sees the Day Photography

    DUMBO THE FLYING ELEPHANT

One of the most iconic Disney rides is Dumbo the Flying Elephant. It’s really popular, so it’s best to grab a FastPass if you are meeting up with a photographer and want to guarantee photos in that ride.

Sit in a pink or blue elephant for a gender reveal photo or take a ride in any of them for cute Disney maternity photos.

Insider tip: Keep your elephant fairly low for the best photos from the ground or have your photographer hop in the elephant in front of you.

    ANYWHERE AT EPCOT

One of my favorite Disney Parks to take photos is Epcot because there is such a variety of photo spots.

My top picks are the Butchart Gardens in the Canada Pavilion, the bridge in the China Pavilion, and the bridge that goes between the France Pavilion and the United Kingdom Pavilion.

    MICKEY SNACKS

I’m a sucker for pregnancy photos that involve food. Disney World has so many Mickey-shaped snacks that are perfect for including in maternity photos.

I probably ate my weight in Dole Whips while pregnant, but now I’d be all over those Mickey-shaped macarons and Rice Krispies treats!
